Jim Hughes
Jim Hughes is the relentless, uncompromising, and indefatigable leader of Campaign Life Coalition (CLC), Canada's oldest and largest national pro-life organization.
In 1978, Jim turned his back on a successful business career to serve the pro-life/pro-family cause. In 1978, He was elected President of Campaign Life Coalition (CLC) Canada, a position he held until he retired from this position in 2018. He continues to serve CLC as the past president without a dip in his 40 to 60 hours of work in this capacity.
CLC works at all levels of government in Canada to secure full legal protection for all human beings, from the time of conception (fertilization) to natural death.
Under Jim’s leadership, CLC founded many organizations, most notably The Interim newspaper (1983) Canada’s only pro-life/pro-family newspaper that eventually gave birth to LifeSite News (1997) an internet news service.
Capturing the power of technology, in 1997 The Interim launched the Internet service LifeSiteNews.com organizations to emphasize the international dimension of attacks on life and family. LifeSiteNews is dedicated to issues of culture, life, and family. Its Daily News Reports and information pages are used by numerous organizations and publications, educators, professionals, political, religious, life and family leaders, and people around the globe. Jim is a board member of LifeSiteNews US and LifeSiteNews Canada.
In 1994, responding to the request of Pope John Paul II, Jim got CLC involved at the United Nations (UN) and obtained ECOSOC status as an NGO. Since then, CLC has sent participants to every UN conference including Cairo (on Population & Development), Copenhagen (on Social Development), Beijing (on Women), Istanbul (on Housing), Rome (on Food), and Lisbon (on Youth).
